A misconception that many people have is that once they have chiropractic care they will have to continue treatment forever. This misconception can best be answered by comparing chiropractic to dentistry. Once you go to a dentist, does that mean you have to keep going ? The answer is no, however, the consequences of not taking care of your teeth are obvious. Due to lack of public education, most people are not aware of the effects of spinal neglect. Your spine is under constant stress as long as you are in an upright position, whether it be sitting or standing. Every part of your body is directly or indirectly attached to your spine & is controlled by the nerves that come from the spine. Unlike your teeth, when your spine develops problems, it cannot be replaced & is at best difficult to repair. It would seem logical then, that it is important to take care of your spine by receiving CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE CARE. When patients come into the office with different health problems, they are treated in different phases or with with different SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT depending on the nature of the problem. For example a patient that has had an AUTO INJURY will receive frequent treatment for PAIN MANAGEMENT with the use of PHYSICAL THERAPY MODALITIES, CLASS IV PAIN LASER TREATMENT, & very gentle SPINAL MANIPULATION if tolerated comfortably. Once their pain is greatly diminished we then begin EXERCISE REHAB in our SPORTS MEDICINE rehabilitation center in order to strenghten all the injured & weak muscles that support the spine. By doing this, the chances of the patient having ongoing long term problems are greatly reduced. If another patient has a BULGED or HERNIATED DISC, their treatment will be very different. They will receive treatment daily for up to 5 weeks in order to decompress & heal their disc. They will receive COMPUTERIZED SPINAL DECOMPRESSION, CLASS IV PAIN LASER, PHYSICAL THERAPY MODALITIES & very specific core exercises to strenghten the supportive muscles of the low back.
Once we have corrected a patient's condition as much as possible, they are encouraged to continue in the future with maintenance care. Maintenance care is based on the patient's AGE, past health HISTORY, DIAGNOSIS etc. It ranges from every three weeks to once every three months & can vary depending on their condition.
