Headache is one of the most common complaints that we hear from patients. There can be many contributing factors that lead to having a headache such as: high blood pressure, food allergies, dehydration, hypoglycemia, chemical sensitivity from foods or the environment etc. However the most common cause of headaches results from vertebrae in the neck that are out of alignment & putting pressure on the nerves that go to your head. This happens as a result of things that happen to us during our daily lives such as: Auto Injury, falls, blows, work injuries, stress, sleeping wrong & even just the wear & tear of daily life.
Most people go about resolving their problems backward. A lot of times patients come to our office after they have taken medications for an extended period of time or have had very expensive testing such as MRI scans, CAT scans & other test just to find out that their tests were normal. However due to their ongoing problem are prescribed medication. Then after taking their medication, sometimes for a long period of time, they finally realize they still have their problem & the medication is merely covering up their symptoms. While MRI scans & CAT scans etc. can provide very valuable information in determining the cause of a patient’s problem it is not financially feasible to run all these tests every time a patient develops a complaint.
I always tell patients that because Chiropractic care is Natural & Holistic, it is the best place to start if they have a headache or other problem. Now with the addition of our highly specialized equipment & techniques (Class IV Laser, Spinal Decompression, ATM, Pettibon, Acupuncture & Homeopathy) most patients have their headaches & other problems rapidly resolved. However if the patient is not responding to care, then is the time to order further testing. Our policy is that if what we are doing is not helping, we will order further tests & or refer them to a specialist.
